Illness Guidelines

At CPU we use the following guidelines to determine if a child is “too sick for school.”  If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s building health team.

These guidelines will reduce the chance of illness in our school and keep other children from getting sick.  Careful consideration on your part will help safeguard the health of your child as well as the health of classmates and teachers.

If you do not have a plan for when your child is sick, we encourage you to make this plan ahead of time.  Thank you for helping us to keep our students healthy!

Vomiting or Diarrhea: Please keep home for 24 hours after last episode

Fever: Please keep home if temperature is above 100.4 and stay home until fever has been below 100.4 for 24 hours without giving a fever reducer.

Cough:  Please keep home if coughing almost constantly or complaints of difficulty breathing.

Antibiotics:  If your child needs to be on antibiotics for an illness, please keep them home until you have given the medicine for 24 hours.

For a variety of illnesses:  Please visit the Iowa Public Health Department (IPHD) for their recommendations by clicking HERE.

State of Iowa Health and Immunization Requirements

Center Point Urbana School District follows the requirements set out by the state of Iowa.

  • Below is a New Student & Student By Grade Matrix of what is needed
  • Please turn in all Health Documents to your student’s building Health Office.
  • New Students to CPU: Please contact the nurse of your child’s school to discuss required paperwork.

All children attending school in Iowa must have a current and valid immunization record. Immunizations must include doses of Tdap, Polio, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B, and Varicella.

In the State of Iowa, a current and valid immunization record must be on file before the first day of school.

CPU will enforce the measure that a student may be excluded from school until their file shows compliance with Iowa Immunization Law.
