About the Center Point-Urbana CSD

Three of our four schools including the Primary (PK-2), Middle School (6-8), and the High School (9-12) are all located in Center Point while the Intermediate (3-5) is located in Urbana. Our community is very proud of the rich tradition of the excellent academic programs and the varied opportunities for students. We are very fortunate to enjoy strong support and trust from parents, the community, and all stakeholders.

Simply put, we believe that the Center Point-Urbana CSD has truly become “a gem” in the greater Cedar Rapids Metro Area!

Facilities & Technology

During the 2021-22 School Year, the district, along with a stakeholder committee group, engaged in a Master Facilities Study to improve the district’s facilities. This study resulted in the School Board choosing INVISION Architecture as the firm to assist the district in helping the Center Point-Urbana CSD become a true Destination District.

The long-term plan is to begin planning for a Bond Referendum in the next several years. There have been many recent updates and all facilities are kept in great shape by our maintenance staff. The high school was built in 2011.  There were major renovations done to the Intermediate and Middle School buildings in 2016.

All classrooms and most of the rooms in the four buildings have air conditioning.   Students in grades 3-5 are issued their own Chromebooks that are kept at school.  Students in Kindergarten through Grade 2 have iPads available within the classroom. The High School students have access to Chromebooks in each of their classroom. We are very proud of our technology in CPU.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts play a major role in the development of our students. All students in both elementary buildings attend art and general music classes on a rotational basis in grades AK-5.  Choir and band are offered to all students in grades 5-12.  The music programs are outstanding and compete at the highest level within the state, as witnessed by state championships with the Center Point-Urbana Debate Team. Large group and small group ensembles participate in both instrumental and vocal music. The high school produces a fall theater production on an annual basis. Individual, small group and large group speech are also very successful programs. The middle school participates in vocal and instrumental music, also competing locally and state-wide.
