Begin the Pointer Pup Journey

Students are engaged in activities and learning opportunities to grow socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively in the early learning environment. The maximum number of students for 3-year-olds is 18 students, along with the state licensed early childhood Teacher and a classroom Paraprofessional.

Our 3-year-preschool program offers students to attend 2 mornings a week; either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday mornings.  Our 3 year old program is a parent-pay program. HeadStart Scholarships are available for qualifying students. To attend, children must be three years old by September 15 and do not need to live in the district to attend Point Pup Preschool.

Curriculum

The Pointer Pup Preschool curriculum is based on the Creative Curriculum for Preschool, early literacy concepts, early social concepts such as interacting with peers, taking turns and sharing materials and oral language.   The curriculum also adheres to the Iowa Early Learning Standards for Preschool. The Early Childhood program is accredited in the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards (IQPPS).

Also available in the preschool program:

  • GOLD assessment
  • Parent/teacher conferences held twice yearly

Inclusive Philosophy

Our philosophy is to include all children. Children with special needs are included in our preschool classrooms. An early childhood special education (ECSE) teacher and paraprofessionals work in the classroom to support the individual educational goals of the ECSE children. The preschool teacher and the ECSE teacher work together as a team to implement the curriculum.
