7 Habits

Be Proactive – You choose your actions, attitude, and mood
Begin With the End in Mind – A goal without a plan is just a wish
Put First Things, First – You’re in charge, you’re the creator
Think Win-Win – Less me, more WE
Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood – We don’t learn from talking, we learn from listening
Synergize – 1 + 1 = 3
Sharpen the Saw – Life is balance: body, brain, heart, and soul

Teachers completed 7 Habits training  and began teaching the common language of the habits to students in every grade level beginning  with the 2018-2019 school year.  Over time, we have created leadership opportunities for students such as Middle School Bus Ambassadors, Shutterbug Club, and the Student Lighthouse Team.  Our students also have many classroom leadership roles and opportunities.

The Student Lighthouse Team is a lead team of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with goals of building a leadership culture among students, helping students to further develop the 7 Habits, and encouraging student voice and using it for school decision-making. This team meets weekly with a small group of teachers.

We have also begun to implement student Leadership Portfolios, which are intended to empower the ownership of learning, reflection, and growth for students. Leadership portfolios include:leadership learning, qualities and best works. reflection on goals and progress. and celebration of personal growth and achievement.

Our staff attends training, has multiple check-ins, and every staff member is on a Leader in Me “Action Team” that meets a couple times a month.  These action teams focus on everything from student recognition to staff learning.  We also have a Staff Lighthouse team that supports our action teams.
